At 298 pounds, Sheri Winter dropped out of life. Too tired for physical activity and too embarrassed to socialize, she stayed home alone. “Food and TV were it,” she recalls. One year after surgery, Sheri has dropped 108 pounds, regained her self esteem and her energy. Sheri is living again.
Sheri Winter walks out of Victoria’s Secret with a shopping bag, a huge smile and a secret of her own. Sheri once weighed 298 pounds. In those days she came here only for perfume. At size 26, shopping for sexy items was not an option. Today Sheri is a size 14, and as she walks through the mall she smiles to herself knowing her pink shopping bag holds more than perfume.
As a teen Sheri’s weight problems began. Feeling stress from family issues, and as an only child, she turned to food for comfort. The eating solution became a habit that followed her to adulthood as Sheri became obese. Embarrassed of being overweight, Sheri stopped dating and spending time with friends. Her lack of energy kept her from physical activities with her son. Sheri recalls, “I wasn’t living, just existing. Food and TV were it. It was horrible.”
Sheri tried “absolutely everything” on the market to loose weight and maintain a healthy diet, but the unwanted pounds remained. Stomach surgery scared her as she witnessed co-workers’ struggle with recovery from the invasive procedures. Believing she would never lose the weight, she felt hopeless. “I cried many tears, many nights.”
Then one night Sheri’s life was changed by a TV infomercial. She learned about the less invasive solution for obesity, Lap-Band® surgery. Intrigued, she immediately went to the website and requested more information. Her research path culminated at a Saint Alphonsus Lap-Band® Weight Loss seminar, and Sheri was ready. “I knew it would be the right thing, immediately,” she says.
The Lap-Band® Weight Loss System is a minimally invasive and adjustable surgical treatment for morbid obesity. It induces weight loss by reducing the capacity of the stomach, by the use of a small inflatable implant device that restricts the amount of food that can be consumed. This procedure is fully adjustable, reversible and has few risks and side effects.
One year after surgery Sheri, 5’11”, has lost 108 pounds and is approaching her goal weight of 180. Recalling her experience she says, “After having Lap-Band surgery my life has changed dramatically. My recovery was so simple. It hasn't been hard, it’s been great!” As the weight came off, her energy soared and a whole world of activities has opened up to her, “Directly because of the Lap-Band surgery,” Sheri claims. She can now enjoy hiking, swimming and even plays basketball.
There have also been changes within. Now confident in her appearance her social life returned and she began dating. “I am living my life again,” Sheri states. Losing the weight helped bring another important gain to her life. “I am getting married next year,” Sheri boasts. “Life is good now.”
