Before surgery, Tony Gabrielli's weight was affecting the lifestyle he loved. Playing sports with his twin boys without suffering from joint pain. Spending quality time with his wife. Going out in public without feeling embarrassed. Now 106 pounds lighter, Anthony's life has changed for the better. He feels 10 years younger, and can now fully enjoy skiing, golfing, and the active demands of being a contractor. "Now I am in control, not my weight."

When Tony went skiing in Sun Valley on his wife's birthday in 2005, a birthday tradition, he weighed 306 lbs. After only two runs he could not ski anymore. He had gone from being a dynamic skier to a non-skier. That particular ski trip was the pivotal moment in his life that convinced him something had to be done—his weight was affecting his family time and the lifestyle he loved.

That time has passed for Tony. After having laparoscopic Lap-Band® surgery at Saint Alphonsus, he is now living the life he has always loved—playing sports with his twin boys, spending quality time with his wife and meeting the demands of being a contractor.

The Lap-Band System is a minimally invasive and adjustable surgical treatment for morbid obesity. It induces weight loss by reducing the capacity of the stomach, by the use of a small inflatable implant device that restricts the amount of food that can be consumed. This procedure is fully adjustable, reversible and has few risks and side effects.

Tony first learned about the Lap-Band system through an ad in the local newspaper. After researching the procedure through the Internet and attending the free seminar at Saint Alphonsus where he learned even more, he was convinced this was the right choice for him. Two months later, Tony went in for the procedure and has never regretted the decision.

Life for Tony today is good. One year after surgery, he is now at the weight he feels most comfortable—199. Along with the weight loss came many changes in his life. These days, you're likely to find Tony skiing, golfing, and even taking on new challenges. Tony also points out that one of the most important changes is that he has tons of energy and his "whole" life is better. It has allowed him to live his life the way he wants to without restrictions or boundaries. "Now I am in control, not my weight."
