As in most surgical specialties, minimally invasive procedures (surgeries performed through tiny incisions) mean faster and easier recoveries for a growing number of total joint replacement patients. Advances in surgical technique and instrumentation have made it possible to replace the hip and knee joints with shorter incisions, causing less damage to surrounding muscle and tendons, less pain and faster recovery.
