The award was given for outstanding use of information technology to improve care.

Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center won the award for reducing the number urinary tract infections in hospitalized patients with urinary catheters. Saint Alphonsus used an electronic surveillance software program called MedMined to track reductions in urinary tract infections after the implementation of several evidence-based interventions. Saint Alphonsus has reduced urinary tract infections by 11%.
